Dread Sorrow, sorrow for thyself
For thou hast been a thief of peace.
Thy days are few and numbered now
And none shall plead for thy release.
Dark Grief, lament for thy demise.
Tears and shadows art thy fare.
Thou shalt soon cease to dim the eye.
Thine own last hours shall be thy care.
Despair, weep now for thy just fate
For thy great work wast to destroy.
God's people weepeth for a night
But in the morning cometh joy.
Cruel Pain, mourn now thy fleeting days.
Thy heaviness hast stolen life.
The King shalt turn thee on thyself.
From thee, make ransom for His wife.
Cold Death, prepare thine own cruel shroud!
For thou hast reveled in thy sting.
Thou shalt be grounded, yea, laid low
And none shalt mend thy wicked wing!
Oh Grave, thy power hast been seized!
For thus the saying then shall be
Your prized possessions you have lost!
Death, swallowed up by victory!
Christ Jesus will the Victor be!

Amazing poem, Alisha! I'm glad to see you around again. Missed you...
BTW... are you attending WFTJ again. I moved back to TX, and Michele Cushatt is leading now. She's awesome! You would enjoy it so much.
I linked here from Nicole O'Dell's blog. I think I visited here once or twice before. I had to comment on this poem. It is so well written. I really liked this stanza:
"Dread Sorrow, sorrow for thyself
For thou hast been a thief of peace. Thy days are few and numbered now And none shall plead for thy release." Sorrow a thief of peace, the days numbered. Very memorable way of expressing what we have all experienced and hope for - release from sorrow.
But this was my favorite line - "Cruel Pain, mourn now thy fleeting days. Thy heaviness hast stolen life."
Maybe b/c I have a family member who is experiencing cruel pain (part of it due to years of hard work and now old age) this line struck a chord. In Christ we trust that all of our suffering will prove to have "fleeting days."
This poem was very well done. Thanks. wb
Warren, thank you!
It is such a blessing to see how my work affects others. Especially when Jesus is able to shine through it. May He come soon and put sorrow, death and pain in the grave for eternity! Blessings to you!
As a follow up, I read your poem in our adult Bible class last night.
